From Runway Shows to DJ Sets: An Exclusive Interview with NYC's IT Girl, Lumia

Lumia is a New York based DJ and producer who has built a strong career in nightlife that is shaped by high fashion. Her life moves seamlessly between worlds: one night opening for names like John Summit and Kaskade, the next fronting campaigns for Dior, Gucci, or Adidas

Rather than treating music and fashion as separate lanes, Lumia combines them into a single creative avenue. Her debut EP Kite is proof: a project that doesn’t just mark a transition from DJ to artist, but sets the tone for an identity that is equal parts club-ready and art-driven. It’s this fluidity that makes her one of the most exciting names to watch as she redefines what it means to be a modern DJ.

On the decks, Lumia has quickly become a name to know in electronic music. Not only has she opened for heavyweights like John Summit, Kaskade, and LP Giobbi, she has also supported artists across the globe including Bedouin, Chloé Caillet, and Patrick Mason.

Lumia’s sets have lit up clubs and festivals alike, from Elsewhere and Le Bain in New York to Lab 54 in the UK, with livestreams on The Lot Radio, Insomniac Radio, and Triple J reaching fans worldwide. With her hypnotic, bass-heavy tech house sound, she’s positioned herself as both a fixture in underground nightlife and a rising international presence.

Lumia’s influence extends beyond the booth and into the world of fashion. She has walked the runway for designers like Sandy Liang and Kim Shui and fronted campaigns for Adidas, Bulgari, Marc Jacobs, and Nike

As a creative force, she’s collaborated with luxury houses including Gucci, Dior, and Chanel Beauty, while also serving on the CFDA Awards Fashion Guild board. Blending her eye for style with her music career, Lumia embodies a rare duality: an artist that can command a crowd at a packed afters and also grace the pages of i-D and Office Magazine.

We caught up with rising artist Lumia after her set opening for John Summit to talk about music, fashion, and life on international stages.

Learning more about “Fashion’s Favorite DJ,” Lumia:

“You’ve opened for so many DJs, now including John Summit. How did the set go?”
L: It was great. I’m feeling super stoked to be here. I can’t wait to play [the after hours].

You’ve played all over, from New York to international stages. What’s your favorite venue you’ve ever played?”
L: Honestly, this one right now. It just hits differently.

“You’re not just a DJ, you’ve walked fashion runways and worked with brands. How has fashion influenced your music and performances?”
L: When I step on stage, I want to wear something fun and expressive. My fashion choices are part of how I perform [and] they help me embody the vibe I want to bring.

Your debut EP Kite marked a shift from being a selector to a full artist. What was that transition like for you?”
L: It felt natural. I come from an arts background. I used to work as a photographer and I love sculpture, so music just became another creative medium for me.

“You’ve said your music is made for the afters. Are there any afterparties or collectives people should check out?”
L: In New York, SAA by Associated always puts on something cool.

Anything coming up that fans should be looking out for?”
L: Nothing I can announce yet… but definitely stay tuned.

“Last question, are there any books you’re into right now?”
L: Fame by Andy Warhol. It’s short, but I always come back to it.

Later after this interview, we watched Lumia deliver a killer set at the official Experts Only after party at 53 Scott Rooftop. Thank you to Lumia and his team for connecting with us and for the great chats. We can’t wait to see what’s next!
