We were able to connect with Grabbitz on Day 1 of Bass Canyon, and here are some highlights of our pre-set conversation!

Grabbitz Gets Real with The LA Raver
“What was your first job?”
Grabbitz: “First job ever was construction.”
“That's sick. If you weren't a DJ right now, what would you be doing?”
G: “Making movies!”
“What kind?”
G: “Anything really, maybe horror, drama, action, anything. I'd be a director and writer for sure.”
“Do you have a movie to recommend?”
G: “Anything by Tarantino.”
“Outside of EDM, which artists are you listening to?”
G: “Outside the EDM realm, Radiohead, Coldplay, Nine Inch Nails, Led Zeppelin, and let's try and do somebody modern. Somebody modern… The Marías, I really like.”
“What is your craziest dream back to back? If you could choose anyone in the world, who would you choose?”
G: “Craziest dream back to back, I need a second for this one 'cause you're never gonna get anyone to answer this one quick, 'cause there's so many possibilities. Dream back to back… There's so many choices. Actually, you know what? I'm just gonna go with my boy and just say Sullivan King.”
“You recently went on tour with him, right?”
G: “Yeah!”
“Sick, how was that?”
G: “Absolutely amazing. We got to play something like 50 shows.”
“I think you guys' styles mesh so well together too.”
G: “We're definitely in it for the same reasons. We love the same stuff. We're very similar.”
“You have a very unique perspective on the industry as both a vocalist and a producer. What are your favorite parts of being an artist?”
G: “I would say performing is definitely a major, major favorite. The creation process of the music itself is my favorite. Just being able to lock away in the studio. Not so much all the social media aspect of it and all of that, but just in the studio making music. That's like my happy.”
“Do you think it's important for a vocalist to also be a producer at the same time?”
G: “I would think it's important for anyone if you're in music, to learn how to produce just because you can get your ideas out faster and more accurately. And, even if someone else is producing, you can at least provide ideas and a vision. You can help them realize your vision better.”
“What was your pipeline to music? Did you play instruments as a kid or really loved it like your whole life?”
G: “Yeah, my whole life. Keyboard, guitar, really crappy keyboards when I was young, and then crappy guitars, and just learning basic stuff on that. And it just all spiraled. First Apple computer was the first dive into beats.”
“What do you even use to produce right now?”
G: “Ableton and Logic. Yeah, I used to use Garageband”
“Really?”
G: “Yeah on the Mac for probably way too long. I was honestly using Garageband for way too long.”

“You do it all from your own record label, Blue Butterfly Records, to singing and producing. What made you chase all these creative hats and endeavors?”
G: “Anything that has to do with the love of the music, I'll do. So, if it has to do with investing money in art and artists, I want to do it. If it has to do with making a music video that helps enhance the art and the music, I will do it. And, you know, putting out albums and touring and all that stuff. It all just revolves around the music, that's just where I live, that's where I belong. So, I do it all.”
“What is the culture and goal of your record label?”
G: “The end goal of the record label is to be able to just give artists a home without any sort of chasing anything that isn't truly about the art and the music. No industry stuff, no chasing viral, no none of that stuff.”
“Just pure love of like the game and music.”
G: “Yeah. Just the music. If it's there, it's there.”
“I feel like that genuine and authentic feeling is something so rare with all these days of social media. So, it's really cool seeing that happen!”
“I used to be chronically online and on my computer playing Valorant.”
G: “Oh hell yeah!”
“I watched that video (Valorant’s ‘Die For You’ video) and I was like, ‘I know this voice, who's singing?’ and I looked at the art, and it's ‘Die For You’ by Grabbitz. I need the story. What's the story behind you and the Valorant collaboration?
G: “ It's actually very happenstance. The team over at Valorant liked my song with Rezz, ‘Someone Else.’”

“That’s a hit. One of my favorites.”
G: “Thank you! They really liked that song. My manager happened to know somebody over at Riot at the time, and hit them up about something, and he just saw that I was managed by him. So, he says, ‘Hey, do you manage Grabbitz? We're actually going for this type of sound with the next endeavor that we're doing with Valorant.’ And I got plugged in.”
“I feel like a lot of their sound is really digging into that industrial, darker bass sound. I love it.”
G: “Yeah, yeah, I mean it started with ‘Die For You.’”
“So follow-up question, do you play any video games then, and if so, which ones?”
G: “ I really like Rocket League is my favorite video game.”
“The music there is crazy. Like it's crazy good.”
G: “It's amazing. Shout out to the Monstercat guys. I know they do all the music. But my favorite video game is, is chess.”
“Like board game chess?”
G: “Like chess, chess.”
“That’s a big brain game.”
G: “It's my favorite physical game, it's my favorite game to play online, it's my favorite.”
“Do you have a player ranking?”
G: “Yeah, right now I'm at 1300 online.“
“Oh, my brain can't comprehend that. I feel like checkers is where I'm at.”
“Looking ahead, any exciting projects to look forward to from you?”
G: “Just a lot of new music. And we're about to go on tour. If you're around any of the touring cities, come check out a Grabbitz show.”
“LA soon again?”
G: “LA soon again, can’t say when or how, but definitely. And we’ll be at Nocturnal Wonderland!”
