Q+A Interview with David Oehm, CEO of RISE Festival

RISE Festival is held deep in the mystic Mojave Desert October 3-5, signifying the world’s largest lantern release and a weekend full of intention, connection and expansion. We got the chance to speak with CEO of RISE, David Oehm. Oehm shares his favorite highlights of the festival, what attendees can expect for the 10-year anniversary next month, and how to best prepare for the experience. Check out the full Q+A below!

LUNA: What makes RISE Festival unique?
DAVID OEHM: At RISE, the music and performances are important, but the heart of the experience is the ritual of releasing thousands of lanterns into the desert sky. Every lantern carries a personal intention, memory, or hope. That shared release creates a collective energy that is unlike anything else. It is not just about entertainment, it is about meaning. The Mojave Desert itself adds to that uniqueness. The silence, the vastness, and the open sky transform the experience into something transcendent.
LUNA: What can attendees expect for the 10-year anniversary?
OEHM: For our 10-year celebration, we wanted to honor what makes RISE so special while taking everything to the next level. The lineup is incredible with artists like RÜFÜS DU SOL, Calvin Harris, Disclosure, John Mayer, Ben Böhmer, Goose, Elderbrook, LP Giobbi, and RY X. We are introducing new spaces, like The Horizon, which is a massive performance stage with immersive technology, and The Compass, where the lantern release takes place with lounges and ceremonial design. There is also The Path, a meditative art-filled journey into the festival, and The Sanctuary for elevated VIP hospitality. Beyond the music and spaces, we have redesigned the layout for better flow, improved sound and lighting, and added more immersive art. Guests can expect moments of awe and connection woven throughout the weekend.
LUNA: How do you prepare for festival weekend?
OEHM: Preparation for RISE is a year-round effort. We listen closely to feedback from our community and then build on what resonated most. Every detail matters, from how guests move through check-in to the timing of the lantern launch. The Horizon stage, for example, came directly from guests wanting the emotional high of the lantern release to carry into the music. On a personal level, I prepare by grounding myself in the purpose of RISE. I remind myself that we are creating a space for people to connect, heal, and celebrate life. Holding onto that intention keeps me centered even in the busiest moments of festival weekend.
We are so excited for RISE this year and hope you are too. Friday is already sold out, so make sure to secure your tickets for Saturday and Sunday while supplies last! Buy tickets here!
